Magnetic coupling, also called permanent magnetic coupling, is a kind of transmission method which connects motor and another device by permanent magnetic force. It works mostly in the magnetic driven pumps, which transporting corrosive, volatile, flammable, explosive and toxic solutions without leakage. Permanent magnetic coupling consists of external coupling, internal coupling and containment shroud(spacer sleeve). The appearance of permanent magnetic coupling thoroughly tackled the leakage problems existed in dynamic sealing of certain mechanical devices.

How Does Permanent Magnetic Coupling Work?

 

Permanent magnetic coupling works by using the power generated by permanent magnets. No external power supply is needed. These are permanent magnets not electromagnets. The magnets are installed alternating between poles in a side by side and opposing position

 

Material Selection:

Magnet: it’s based on working temperature and corrosion-resistance requirements.

NdFeB – Temperatures up to 150°C. Corrosion protection required.

Ceramic – Temperatures up to 250°C. Corrosion protection not required.

SmCo – Temperatures up to 350°C. Corrosion protection optional.

 

Housing: normal carbon steel, stainless steel(304, 316, 416 etc.), nickel super alloys (Inconel, Hastelloy, Monel, etc.)

 

Spacer sleeve: stainless steel, nickel super alloys (Inconel, Hastelloy, Monel, etc.), plastics (Nylon, Teflon, etc.), Ceramics.
